2021 Trans Pool Party set for August 22

Dear loved community and allies,

It is with a heavy heart that we announce the Transgender Pool Party and Potluck is being canceled for 2021.

We were excited to converse with our friends and family at this popular annual event. This event means a lot to many of us because it brings us all together in a space that is safe and affirming while maintaining that warm and casual environment.

Unfortunately with COVID-19 numbers on the rise and the increased rate of transmission from the Delta variant, this has put all the co-hosts in a tough spot. Our main priority is to keep our community safe and the current data has shown that we could not guarantee this at this time. Even more concerning, we did not want to create a false sense of safety that could increase the spread of this virus.Trust us when we say that we all fought for this and heavily debated all the possibilities. This was a unanimous decision by all co-hosts: Utah Pride Center, Transgender Education Advocates of Utah (TEA), and Genderbands.

We hope you all understand and will not lose hope for the future of the Trans Pool Party event. As community organizations we will keep growing and creatively developing safe activities and safe spaces. At this time, please help us to get the word out. We know that some of our community may not have easy access to technology so spreading this information by word of mouth is very important.

I personally want to thank every sponsor that was involved this year and we hope to include them in this amazing event next time we can safely put this together. These sponsors include: Rebirth Health Center, the University of Utah Transgender Health Program, Trader Joe’s, and Peak Boxing.
